Ledong runs along the south-western coast between Dongfang and Sanya. It is one of Hainan's most agriculturally productive counties, particularly for winter vegetables grown for mainland markets during the northern Chinese off-season, and for tropical fruit.
It sits inside the Greater Sanya economic circle and has coastline suited to tourism development, but it has no designated Free Trade Port key park. Its investment proposition is agricultural and, increasingly, energy-linked given its west-coast position.
