Lingao sits on Hainan's north-western coast between Chengmai and Danzhou. Its economy has historically been fisheries and agriculture — it is one of the island's principal aquaculture counties.
Its industrial development is organised around the Jinpaigang Development Zone (金牌港开发区), a coordinated satellite park of Yangpu Economic Development Zone. That relationship matters: it puts Lingao inside the Yangpu policy framework rather than leaving it dependent on the island-wide baseline alone.
